I'm currently tasked with cleaning up a project which no one can explain how it all worked because none of the Programming Motherfuckers bothered to write any Documentation, Motherfucker.
- yannickt 16y agoCode written by true programming motherfuckers is self-documenting, motherfucker.
- rapind 16y agoor written by unicorns, motherfucker.
- snorkel 16y agoself-documenting code only says what it does but does not say anything about what it's supposed to do or explain why
- rimantas 16y agoYou may be right about why, but I don't agree on what. Good names for functions/methods can tell a lot. I feel like I am getting spoiled by Objective-C and Cocoa Touch APIs.
- nadnerb 16y agoSelf documenting code should be accompanied tests, which further replaces the need for documentation. It also has less chance to rot.
- BrandonM 16y agoKnuth agrees: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Literate_programming#Tools http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Literate_programming#Tools http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TeX#Development http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TeX#Development
- quadhome 16y agoIs software good at amplifying or replacing people? The idea that a system (software or whatever) of any complexity could lose every person involved in it, exist without problems by itself, and then new people could easily pick it up solely with the help of documentation is laughable.
- Dylanlacey 16y agoSoftware tends to be good at amplifying people, where the people involved don't need ... skills.
