It's made their software development process fat and lazy, and propped up bad products that should have been dropped or fixed. Apple's software reputation was invincible ten years ago, and now it's shipping Mac apps that can't even full screen video properly. I think, in the long run, that will cost the company far more than it gains from it's behaviour.
