The utility one derives from non-Free software is profit the vendor has not yet captured?
- gwern 6y agoAnd their incentive is to capture as much of it as possible no matter how large the deadweight losses are; Free Software is a positive-sum game, and, unfortunately, proprietary software increasingly tends towards negative-sum games.
