I'm surprised that medical studies seem to happen in silos. The severity of adverse effect is well known in China during the 2003 SARS period. Dexamethasone is cheap probably due to the mass production of the drug in China in the early noughties. Before isolating the coronavirus of SARS corticosteroid drug abuse led to serious problems where patients had their lives saved but eventually disabled. The chinese lead scientist in SARS/Covid19 is known for saving lives with these drugs (super high dose and cocktail drugs) but also warned their serious effect after the treatment. There was a huge debate of stop using them all together in favour of traditional chinese medicine (which is equally biased).
