If I were building a user-oriented web app today, this is what I'd do. Store data locally (using PouchDB or plain localStorage, optionally syncs to remote CouchDB that user owns), with optional MS-DOS era UI (using Bootstrap 386) for clarity and minimal distraction, keyboard shortcuts for all major operations (like Windows' Alt+Letter shortcuts for easy discovery), and avoid implementing user authentication where possible.
