No, it’s not. The push for maintaining manufacturing capacity is not about jobs though that’s been one way to try to frame it for a myopic populace. I thought more people would figure that out given PPE shortages and the inability to produce enough medications for our citizens but people need to simplify and straw man the issue. It’s more importantly a national security and strategic consideration. But many cannot see that far for some reason.
- cercatrova 6y agoYes, this is the real reason. What if a foreign power controls something you desperately need? It's not going to work out too well for your country. In that case, even as there is comparative advantage in global trade, one must still control certain industries domestically.
