I spent an extra 10-15 minutes trying to debug an issue with Shibboleth last week with two other devs that had never set it up on a server before. Why? Because we weren't forcing https yet in IIS and while I thought I had told it to go to the https site I was either wrong or it had changed. The address bar notification no longer jumps out at me. I second a persistent dev mode / not continuing to remove address data from the address bar by default.
