- hirako2000 6y agoWouldn't surprise me. Users are the product, what's to expect.
- ShamelessC 6y agoI think they're already trying to force that at the network level instead of the browser level using signed exchanges. https://developers.google.com/web/updates/2018/11/signed-exchanges https://developers.google.com/web/updates/2018/11/signed-exc...
- m0xte 6y agoFfs. I’m going back to gopher at some point.
- anticensor 6y agoGopher over SNA/OSI is worse than WWW/TCP/IP in terms of ability to publish UGC.
- m0xte 6y agoThat's a feature
- anticensor 6y agoGoogle Network Control Program?
- Hackbraten 6y agoWhich is soon to be usurped by Google because it starts with “Go.”
- m0xte 6y agocheckmate google! https://github.com/prologic/go-gopher https://github.com/prologic/go-gopher
- nerdponx 6y agoOr just switch to Firefox...
- m0xte 6y agoFirefox is going down the toilet as well. Lots of me-too-isms are appearing. Really my point was in jest. I think we need to trash the entire www and start again with something content only focused and hard same-origin policy and far far far lighter than what we have. I tried browsing the web on a dual core celeron N3010 recently and it was unusable on all mainstream browsers.
- zozbot234 6y agoSigned exchanges are quite neat actually, they do not seem to depend on AMP at all. You could even use them to get arbitrary static resources hosted via IPFS in a seamless way.
- ShamelessC 6y agoFor sure, just as AMP is also a neat technology that can be used by companies other than google. But my understanding is that they intend to use signed exchanges specifically for their amp URLs, finally finishing their efforts of forcing people to go to google.com without them ever having realized it.
- lvs 6y agoYes, walling the garden has been the goal all along.
