Worked for a long time as a developer and architect (where architect still codes, explores new tech, just thinks more about system issues). I won’t say how many years but let’s just say “many”. You don’t need to be promoted out of your interest zone or past your competence level. I’d gently question the “everyone” in your stage, as there are fewer jobs available at those higher rungs. Only regret is that I didn’t find an opportunity that let me retire at 30. I like making software and solving problems.
