Ask HN: Why does finding freelance jobs as a Data Scientist suck so hard?
I'm a Data Scientist with 3+ years of experience in NLP and Computer Vision. I've been using freelance platforms (Upwork, Toptal et al), job boards and even social networks (LinkedIn and Reddit) to look for new opportunities.
There are tons of potential platforms, terrible personalization, and too much noise. For example, I'd like the jobs feed shown to me personalized according to my skills, taste and type of clients I've worked with. Receiving notifications for a selected few jobs would also ensure I don't miss out on golden opportunities.
What does HN think is the best way for an AI Consultant like me to find freelance opportunities?
P.S. I've been working on a sideproject that partially solves this problem for me and my colleagues - a tool to collect opportunities off of all platforms we use, perform personalized ranking, and then send them to our Slack chats. I'm working to open this to more freelancers for free. If you're a freelancer reading this, I'd love to hear your feedback on the problems you're facing.
