I said your argument is wrong and that Stanford, which you claimed was not accredited, is in fact accredited, and you are confused about what accreditation means, as ABET accreditation is not what we're talking about, but regional accreditation, which is the standard.
Most CS programs are not ABET accredited and do not find it necessary.
I had been told before that Harvard was not accredited and that was clearly incorrect, so I also corrected that in my comment with the information I found when I looked it up.
- chrisseaton 6y agoHave you ever applied to a job and been asked if your college was accredited? Have you ever hired someone and stopped to check if their college was accredited?
- jki275 6y agoWhy would someone ask? The information is available. And if I see a degree from a university I don't recognize and then discover it's unaccredited, sure, that's a red flag. You can't get employment in my industry without a degree from a regionally accredited university.
- chrisseaton 6y agoWhat industry are you in? I guess it isn't CS, because you don't even need a degree here. And the context of this thread is CS.
- jki275 6y agoSoftware Engineering, and in my industry you have to have a degree. You simply won't get hired otherwise.
- chrisseaton 6y agoLol even Facebook, Apple, Amazon, Google all hire without needing a degree. You can go all the way to the top here with no degree. Don’t believe the people telling you you need accreditation!
- jki275 6y agoI know they will do that on occasion, for an outstanding candidate. But the vast majority of their work force has a real degree from an accredited university, and you know it.
