We need for-real contact tracing. The US has now spent trillions of dollars on band-aids, but I haven't seen a single contact-tracing report for our metropolitan area.
When we had measles outbreaks in Washington State, there were regularly published lists of locations and times where cases had been observed. I haven't seen anything like it for COVID-19 yet, nor any contact-tracing numbers. It should be straightforward to report the fraction of cases discovered through contact-tracing daily. As we get a handle on the virus, that fraction should grow toward one.
If we knew where every case was, today, we could substantially attenuate the virus' impact within a month.
Washington's case load is on the cusp of rising again. Now is the time to make it happen and hammer the virus to zero. Almost any investment in contact tracing is going to pay for itself.
Getting the virus under control is our ticket out of this mess.
