I've found psychedelics most enjoyable when at home without other people around. After a good night's sleep, in a controlled environment, having prepared for it (best if it's done as a celebration of some major accomplishment like finishing an academic year in college). I have done psychedelics with friends, at raves (in nature), at Burning Man, and walking around NYC (each had some scary moments). Would not advise doing that until you've had enough experiences in calm surroundings several times.
