FYI, I optimised the "python3" code by using numpy. Total runtime on a laptop CPU was 1 s. This is why all classes for scientists I've seen teach numpy. (Incidentally: total time to "optimise" and TEST is less than 5 minutes. Total time to rewrite in Rust: ongoing after 2 hours, with issues filed on the best available crate for the task, whose documentation examples fail to compile. Not even going to try in bare Rust due to the issues with > 32 length arrays.)
