I went through an attempt to teach my son (10 at the time) some basic programming principles and he was completely disinterested. I am of the opinion that I am not going to force the topic on him, so I left it alone and didn't pressure him. In the last couple years since then, he has completely blown me away with his programming (mostly logic) capabilities that he has learned from games like Scrap Mechanic and StormWorks.
