The desktop was pretty terrible for me (on Linux) for until a few months ago, but now it works perfectly. The only thing missing is sms from the desktop but from what I understand Signal won't ever add that because sms isn't secure
- StavrosK 6y agoI really hope this improves, I had to reset my laptop's Signal Desktop just last week because all the messages were "couldn't decrypt" and I was missing messages on my desktop just today.
- _emacsomancer_ 6y agothere's still no call/video from the desktop, no?
- solstice 6y agoThere is an option in settings to enable camera and microphone, no? Have you tried that?
- _emacsomancer_ 6y agoI have those enabled, but I don't see a way to make a voice or video call from the desktop. Maybe I'm missing something?
- pthatcherg 6y agoI work on calling for Signal, and the last few months we have been working on desktop calling. It's nearly ready and will hopefully be in public beta in a matter of weeks, and (again, hopefully) fully available in a few months.
- _emacsomancer_ 6y agoThis is excellent news. (Desktop calling would include video calls, right?)
- Vinnl 6y agoGiven that you're able to use the Desktop app without your phone even being on, I'm not sure how they'd even be able to do that. I can use e.g. KDE Connect when my phone is on to send SMS messages from my desktop, but then they won't appear in Signal, unfortunately.
