I feel strongly that ads are a net-negative to society in their current form. They provide some value (a way for people offering products to reach an audience) but the current implementation doesn't work. Ads make sense in certain scenarios: for example, if I'm explicitly searching for a product I want. But in most cases it's just noise and it incentivizes the wrong behaviours.
