Drive defensively, but if a drunk driver hits your car and kills you, it's still their fault. Wear safety glasses, but if a police officer hits you and takes out your eye, it's still their fault. I agree with you that wearing safety gear might be a great idea. That still says something terrible about the American police system, and it shouldn't be necessary.
