Reminds me of how some newspaper explained that "Covid showed us how unselfish we were all being" or something to that effect. They conveniently missed the part when everyone was hoarding toilet paper at the start of the crisis.
- watwut 6y ago> They conveniently missed the part when everyone was hoarding toilet paper at the start of the crisis. Factually, it is not true that everyone was hoarding toilet paper. Also, you conveniently ignore that there was simultaneous recommendation to have supplies of everything for two weeks, in case you need quarantine - which means portion of people who were buying a lot were thinking the are following instructions.
- mensetmanusman 6y agoOur community has little free libraries on the sidewalks, many of them had toilet paper in them at the time.
- 52-6F-62 6y agoHa. That was also happening here. We never saw a drastic shortage, though. The store was empty or had limited supplies for a week or two then they brought in a large shipment and everybody cooled off.
- vangelis 6y ago> source on every single American hoarding toilet paper?
- jariel 6y agoPeople were not hoarding, they were just buying a little bit more than usual. It's not irrational or 'hoarding' to buy 2x24 when normally you buy 1x24. It seems pretty reasonable actually. But when we all do that, it sells out immediately. It was 'significant increase in demand brought on by marginal and reasonable increases in individual behavior'.
- Kye 6y agoAdd to that the fact that people would typically use the toilet paper in offices and retail much of the day, but now had to supply their own at home. It's a whole different supply chain that was suddenly burdened with a situation it wasn't prepared for.
