- AnssiH 6y agoI don't think they are currently planning to provide services in such countries.
- chaos_a 6y agoWouldn't it be possible for someone to fake their location and sign up anyways? Or does starlink require the knowledge of your exact location to operate?
- fastball 6y agoIn order to access Starlink you'll need a phased-array antenna, so yes, they will know exactly where you are.
- nickik 6y agoIf they look for them
- 8bitsrule 6y agoA flat box decorated to blend with the shingles it's resting on might be invisible for a long time.
- fastball 6y agoI meant that you are directly communicating with moving satellites, so they can fairly trivially triangulate anyone using the service. But yes, they will also have your shipping address, as they are producing the ground antennas in-house.
- Denvercoder9 6y agoThey'll turn the antennas in the satellites off when they're not above a region they're servicing. That's both for legal reasons (you are not allowed to use spectrum you haven't licensed) and physical reasons (less energy usage).
- FrojoS 6y agoIt won't unless these countries agree.
- PeterisP 6y agoProbably with the same process as currently some regimes are handling satellite phones - the receiver hardware becomes a regulated item where it's a crime to import, operate or possess one without an appropriate permit.
