Both facebook and twitter give the president something more than traditional media: retweets, engagement, reaction, analysis etc. The whole 'the only good democrat is a dead democrat' and glorifying violence would have been much harder to do with traditional potus press statements. Twitter and Facebook allow him to use these new tools, despite his tendency to incite violence. They help to enable him. And it's their choice. And they thus make his words much more effective.
