Tempo is just one feature of music whose change in manifestation we may be readily able to perceive with our knowledge. There is much more under the hood. Regarding Trevor Pinnock, his Pachelbel Canon & Gigue may be nimble[2] (compared to romantic readings), but then have you heard Reinhard Goebel's (Musica Antiqua Köln)[3]? Rinaldo Alessandrini of Concerto Italiano revised his own approach to Vivaldi's Gloria towards a slower tempo.[4][5] [1]: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=23390831 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=23390831 [2]: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oa_ndWt0Hjo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oa_ndWt0Hjo [3]: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z__dWl0MWbQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z__dWl0MWbQ [4]: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ws470IUmcqM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ws470IUmcqM [5]: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVXf8S6sY5M https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVXf8S6sY5M
