I'm very not comfortable with camera-only and no-sensor approaches in self-driving cars. While they can train a neural network with millions or even billions of sample images from real-life tests, I do think they're still bound to fail in some corner cases. Remember FB's face detection that turned out failed to detect faces of people of certain races? I think there's still some possibilities that NN in self-driving cars would fail to recognize some corner cases such as a grandma crossing a street with particularly unique combination of clothes and colors.
