I don't see how those two are related. You can sell user data using free or proprietary software. People call it immoral, in part because you can't modify it to tailor it to your needs, which I understand. When you buy a computer, you can repair or modify it. No one has called it immoral because of the usage that was done of it (ie good or evil).
