I use a pretty default i3wm/i3bar/dmenu setup as my 'de'. The best things about it is its not like the other GUIs. It has no discoverability, and its small and "hard" to see. Which is great, because I know it backwards and would like to look at other things. I don't know Krita, and it requires a lot of focus. Boy am I glad its not like my de.
