Promotions are the wrong goal. Organizations seem to want you to think it is and stay put no matter what. Don't. You should keep moving. I would argue that remote working makes it possible for the employee to not be emotionally over-invested in work/employer and to target for better economic outcomes for themselves. Offices are corrals in a way. Dont allow yourself to be herded.
