Where does your idea come from that FAANGs aren't right? I'm 50, doing fine at a FAANG. My team has a good chunk of 40+ people on it as well. I see a good number of 40+ people on other teams, too. I get regular pings from other FAANGs about recruiting. So, def. try for FAANGs. Just invest a couple of weeks into prepping for the interview process. Yes, it's stupid, but "behold my algorithmic chops" is what they want to see, so you cram algorithmic chops.
