Even if this idea falls apart, and users see that they genuinely tried to provide value, users would not mind taking a chance on them the next time. Right now they are in a hole, but I think providing value will definitely dig them out of that hole. I think the first act of good faith can be removing dark patterns, allowing users to unsubscribe easily from your service.
