My record on predicting tech trends is terrible, but wasn't the outcome of that switch to cloud computing a massive increase in the demand for software developers? For now, at least, it seems that things that reduce the amount of work developers need to do actually increases their value.
- osdiab 6y agoI think while it's true that new tools allow fewer people to do more work, that also expands the pool of tasks engineers can work on - more fields come to value software, work gets deeper in the fields that already did, competition gets fiercer, and the market as whole expands. This probably can't go forever but I don't see that trend ending any time soon.
