I've seen first hand how the frothy Bay Area property market has caused founding families in the area to completely disperse. My wife's family are all from San Jose and San Francisco. Been there since at least 1830 - there's even a road named after one side of the family tree. Today, not a single member of the current generation lives there. Not a single one. It just boggles my mind that the entire clan have dispersed across the US to cheaper states. I'd say another 20-30 years and there won't be anyone from the family left there at all.
