Batteries degrade while in storage and they degrade with every cycle. The best you can do is never store it fully charged. Never discharge it fully. Modern tools never let you do that, but if you store a "discharged" battery it will fully discharge(by self-discharge) over time. The best way is to charge it to 3.7V and then store it and check it at least yearly.
