- Tagbert 6y agoAre we talking BCE or CE? :)
- wool_gather 6y agoWere there Aprils in BCE?
- rovolo 6y agoYes, the Roman calendar called the month "Aprilis". 10/12 of the modern Gregorian names were present in the calendar used by the Roman Republic (~500 BCE). Mark Antony renamed the month of "Quintilis" to "Julius" after Julius Caeser's assassination. The senate renamed "Sextilis" to "Augustus" in 8 BCE to honor Julius's grand-nephew who ruled for 45 years as the first emperor of Rome. Of course, the Romans didn't use 'BCE' at that time. They referred to years by the consuls who held office that year.

- mark-r 6y agoI once had to write software that would create labels with a date, and said software would be used in both the U.S. and Ireland. I tried to push for the ISO standard of 2020-04-05 but couldn't get buy-in. Was finally forced to compromise on 2020-Apr-05.
- bckygldstn 6y agoWhile clear to all [english speakers] it still has US bias. Outside of the US it's more common to write 05 Apr 2020
