Medicating will be painful and frustrating for most people, the only thing that differs is whether they will eventually help or not. Sadly, the road to find a working medication that has minimally inhibiting side effects is painful enough that it isn't worth it for many people. Therapy becomes a bit more viable, especially since it's more of a positive process.
