I have to emphatically disagree there. Up until recently Windows didn't even have a decent terminal app. As a developer I tend to shy away from Windows precisely because the *Nix alternatives offer a better development experience, from cli to package management and more.
- pjmlp 6y agoNot every developer needs a terminal app to feel like one. In fact Mac OS also didn't have any until OS X.
- tech-historian 6y agoOS X was released in 2001, which is a pretty long time ago.
- pjmlp 6y agoYet classical Mac OS developers were able to do without one for 17 years, and I bet most developers actually targeting Apple devices still do without one, when I look around the office over here and see InteliJ, XCode and AppCode.
- CodeGlitch 6y agoReal developers automate. It's hard to automate without a terminal :)
- freeone3000 6y agoIf you're using a terminal to automate on windows, you're going to have a bad time. You'll want something like AutoHotKey which has been around for a long while.
- HeWhoLurksLate 6y agoWhile you're not wrong, I think that you're referencing a different flavor of automation than GP is.
- AnIdiotOnTheNet 6y agoYou can automate just fine in a console with PowerShell.
- pjmlp 6y agoYou can automate with scripting languages and REPL.
- mhd 6y agoDoesn't MPW count?
- pjmlp 6y agoYeah, but most people were using the GUI tooling anyway and not everyone was a MPW user.
- gindely 6y agoWindows still doesn't have a decent terminal app! The new one just crashes when I resume from suspend. (I believe it's because when the computer suspends, it forgets about the external monitor. But it's still not evident to me why that should make it crash.)
- noisem4ker 6y agoIf we consider third parties, ConEmu is well beyond decent.
