A Freedom of Information request would resolve this. I’d be surprised if there weren’t a bit more nuance to the situation though.

- non-entity 6y agoI wonder how many FOIA requests turn up useful information. I've heard horror stories of people becoming victims of targeted harassment from agencies they attempted to get of FOIA request from.
- matthewdgreen 6y agoI have two FOIA requests pending with the Federal government, going on a year now. I have no idea what Florida's equivalent is like, but I suspect this story will be long forgotten by the time that produces a result. The most effective response is for the media to make a big deal about the possibility of censorship in the short term, and demand transparency from the state. If the state feels that their position is being misrepresented and there's no wrongdoing, they can make a public statement and correct the record.
- WrtCdEvrydy 6y agoFlorida's FOIA is called a sunshine law request... takes about 3-5 days depending on what you ask for.
- ashtonkem 6y agoThis is why “Florida man <does something insane>” is a meme; the sunshine laws result in police reports being made public in Florida in time to produce articles of this form.
- WrtCdEvrydy 6y agoPolice reports are automatically public but almost everything else is public. I had to request it for a documentary on Cybersecurity that went nowhere and got a lot of interesting info about state spending.
