Why
- downvoteme1 6y agoTo eat Airtable’s lunch
- runawaybottle 6y agoI thought it was cooler to just buy startups instead of competing with them? I can’t tell what’s cool anymore.
- pxtail 6y agoThey already have Access so no need to buy another copy, they just need to add more modern, streamlined UI and a bit of Excel functionality.
- runawaybottle 6y agoWhy not just eliminate Airtable as a competitor and move those efforts to whatever this Fluid thing is?
- tehwebguy 6y agoThere are like 10 airtable clones waiting to take their spot
- quickthrower2 6y agoYeah, just a couple of scrum sprints and !puff! Access turns into Airtable
- throwawaysea 6y agoI think acquiring startups and integrating them is difficult. Microsoft hasn't had a great track record with acquisitions of late (aQuantive, Skype, Yammer) but have done better with straight up clones of products/ideas/markets created by others. You can see this in Azure (clone of AWS), Teams (clone of Slack), and now this.
- DevKoala 6y agoIt depends on what the startup offers and what market they are in. Microsoft's acquisition of LinkedIn is a successful one for example.
