Ask HN: Why YC companies never hire remote worldwide?
- louis_pasteur 6y agoAmerica has a very twisted legal system where patent trolls and fake DMCAs are quite common. In this case, many have spread FUD that its illegal to hire freelancers outside of USA through online freelance sites. Naturally, these FUD campaigns are paid for by those who don't want to see US startups succeed.
- boltzmannbrain 6y agoIt's non-trivial and often expensive to hire international employees (legally [0]). $Billion tech companies can afford to do this (staff HR teams and shell out visa-related fees), whereas lean, small startups cannot. [0] There's a significant difference between "employee" and "contractor".
