- blaser-waffle 6y agoI can't understand why ANY cell phones would be allowed in a military Area of Operations. Even a 1998 flip phone will dial home and give off all sorts of signals. And you can absolutely download and allow similar apps with an iPhone.
- catalogia 6y agoMaybe our unwaverable smartphone addictions will finally make war impractical. Unable to put down the phone, but also unable to operate effectively in battlefields because of that phone. Hey, a man can dream can't he?
- wlll 6y ago> I can't understand why ANY cell phones would be allowed in a military Area of Operations. Yup. > And you can absolutely download and allow similar apps with an iPhone. The article referenced malware, is there malware that can run on an up-to-date iPhone?

- LinuxBender 6y agoI can back that up. In 1997 I managed a GSM network and could update a phones firmware over the air. You might notice your phone rebooting but that's it.
- yonixw 6y agoUnless you buy some knockoff brand, why the fear from android alone? iOS had some zero-day vulnerabilities exploited in the wild also. Also, Isn't there a consensus that open-source is always safer because it is being inspected by all?
- quantummkv 6y agoThe difference here is that Apple will not only patch zero-day vulnerabilities when they are reported to them, but they will also instantly deploy the fixes to their entire 5 years worth of device lineup as soon as it is ready. With Android, unless you have a Pixel or Samsung is feeling very, very magnanimous, forget any patches coming to your device any time soon. And that too only 3 years for Pixel.
