  If carbon footprint is that important to you, maybe you should find ways to encourage companies not to solder on RAM instead.

    Why not both? My computer still computes with 2 GB of ram. It’s just that developers are gluing more and more stuff together to do things we did on Pentium processors with 64 MB of ram.

    no. just because soldered on ram is bad doesn't mean that bad code is ok.
