Interesting that it's the banks that are catching this. I know we trash banks, and they do some terrible things to customers, but they have become important partners in fighting financial crime including AML (Anti Money Laundering) and other crimes. I'm sure some banks are using ML to detect anomalous transactions, and I wouldn't be surprised if one or more ML models are what first flagged this activity as suspicious.
