No offense, but some of the worst people I’ve ever worked with were “senior” engineers who were convinced that everyone needed to learn to think like them, and that there was nothing left for them to learn themselves. An orthodontist job doesn’t require the same people skills as an engineer working in a team, so it’s not really comparable.
- jeffbee 6y agoI think simple practice of craft is a huge missing piece in our field. Everyone is trying to learn something, or invent it, and relatively little practical mastery. When I hire a new grad I expect someone who will learn and grow. When I hire someone with 20 years of experience it's because I want them to do what they know. They're at the top of their game. The only people skills I need out of them is good taste and the ability to say "no" without hurting feelings.
