Ask HN: Was it a mistake for C++ to go the ISO route?

Sometime back I watched a presentation by Dr. Bjarne Stroustrup in one of the colleges in Cambridge, UK. In that presentation he lamented that modules did not make it into the C++ standard. That got me thinking, if it was not for the way the international standardisation works, C++ evolution would have been similar to how other well known languages have evolved and could have been a very different language.
