Does anyone have a good feel for how much risk we actually face in California from a total meltdown in Japan?
Thanks.
- wtallis 16y agoNone, unless the radioactive slag is magically aerosolized and propelled in to the upper atmosphere, then carried swiftly across the Pacific.. A meltdown on its own will only cause local damage. Take a look at our discussion last year of the concept of a banana equivalent dose: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1429524 http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1429524 The extent of milk contamination as a result of the Three Mile Island meltdown was that a glass of milk was 75 times less radioactive than the average banana.
- stretchwithme 16y agoyeah, some of the other comments indicate this map is bunk. Thanks. I'll watch out for those bananas. :-)
