I'm surprised no one has mentioned counting in binary on their hands yet. You can get to 31 with just one hand.

- Swizec 6y agoThis just blew my mind. Also almost broke my fingers.
- pjs_ 6y agoSome of the finger strain can be alleviated by using a Gray code.
- ARandomerDude 6y agoAlso by switching from emacs to vim. ...oh sorry, wrong thread. :)
- eru 6y agoYes. Though gray code is a bit harder to work with directly for anything but counting up.
- patricknixon 6y ago4
- greggyb 6y agoRude.
- ineedasername 6y ago132
- minikomi 6y agohey.. 5 man. be cool.
- moron4hire 6y ago13 (considering the thumb as the most significant digit, for obvious evolutionary reasons)
- nvader 6y agoThumb should be least significant, because the least significant digit changes most often when counting, and therefore you want the most dextrous digit doing that.
- DoreenMichele 6y agoYou can go a lot higher on two hands, though it gets annoying to hold your left hand in one awkward position for long periods. Still, a useful little thing I picked up in my teens. And taught at a conference one year when I was doing a presentation that was glorified babysitting for smart kids so their parents could attend other stuff at the conference.
- ringshall 6y agoJust be careful about 27.
- namelosw 6y agoWell there are specific combinations that are pretty hard for some people.
- fredophile 6y agoThat's also true of the linked article. I can't bend my pinky finger to make the symbol for 1 in the diagram without my ring finger also being significantly bent.
