Ask HN: What's your advice on attending SXSW?

For new startups (just launched, but still working on lots of stuff), is it worth attending events like SXSW? Or is it better to just spend time working on your product? If going to such conferences, what's the goal? Publicity? Getting funders? Getting customers?
