You have a Rose colored view of history if you believe the Trump administration is the first and only Administration to use the "Justice" dept or FBI for their political ends
In fact I would be hard pressed to find a single administration that has not used them as a political tool
I am glad to see people are finally waking up to the dangers of a large central government, but I am dishearten that people believe that Trump is uniquely corrupt, and that if we just replace Trump with a democrat everything will be a-ok
- JadeNB 6y agoThere is a huge difference between "the current administration practices corruption on a massive scale" and "no other administration has practiced or will practice corruption". (For example, your parent didn't mention Democrats at all. I will be reluctantly voting for Biden, hoping more that he doesn't make things worse than that he will make them significantly better; but, if a different Republican were the only way to get Trump out of office, then I'd vote for the Republican.)
- syshum 6y ago>>There is a huge difference between "the current administration practices corruption on a massive scale" and "no other administration has practiced or will practice corruption" Trump is more colorful and in your face about it, but I do not believe his Administration is more corrupt, he just does not have the media covering for him like the past administration have Further some of the "corruption" is not IMO corruption at all, like for example the current scandal around Michael Flynn. Those charges by the FBI are a clear example of Tyranny (Tyranny defined as that which is legal for government but illegal for the citizenry). What is sad to me is that FBI does that to people all the time and normally gets away with it
- JadeNB 6y ago> Trump is more colorful and in your face about it, but I do not believe his Administration is more corrupt, he just does not have the media covering for him like the past administration have I think there is support, among many in the media at least, for the idea that Trump's administration is more corrupt than Nixon's; but surely you would not claim that Nixon's administration was one that enjoyed extensive media coddling? > Tyranny defined as that which is legal for government but illegal for the citizenry. This is an over-expansive definition of tyranny, I think. It says, for example, that waging war against another country is tyranny. I can imagine adopting this position, but is it what you mean? (It's also hard for me to apply even this expansive definition of tyranny to: > Those charges [against Flynn] by the FBI are a clear example of Tyranny (Tyranny defined as that which is legal for government but illegal for the citizenry). I agree that the government can lay criminal charges against an individual, whereas an individual cannot do so against another, but that is a very general phenomenon that has nothing particular to do with Flynn's case, so again I assume that it's not what you mean.)
- syshum 6y ago>>This is an over-expansive definition of tyranny, I think. It says, for example, that waging war against another country is tyranny. I can imagine adopting this position, but is it what you mean? Any non-defensive use of violence, and any violence that goes beyond the minimum required eliminate the immediate threat is unethical. So yes most wars fought by most nations are Unethical and an example of Tyranny >>I agree that the government can lay criminal charges against an individual, whereas an individual cannot do so against another, but that is a very general phenomenon that has nothing particular to do with Flynn's case, so again I assume that it's not what you mean.) In Flynn's case he was charged with Lying to the FBI, it is illegal for you to lie to the FBI but it is perfectly legal for the FBI to lie to you... For this to not be Tyrannical then it either needs to be illegal for the FBI to lie to a suspect, or it needs to be legal for a suspect to lie to the FBI
