I had an AHK script that uses capslock+ijkl for navigation (plus a few other things like modal space-bar for select) but it wasn't reliable enough at speed. Maybe it was the way I programmed it. So I wrote a Windows keyboard hook in C which turns out to be easy enough to do. I just hard-coded the key mappings in a switch statement. Been using it for about 10 years and find it hard to work without it.
