What are the the company's expectations of your new role? Do you have the tools to implement your mandate? Biggest issue I've seen over the years: - Unclear role: so you interpretation might not match upper management's expectations. - Super results with no powers: Sometime you are expected to do X, but have no control or 'power' to enforce your vision. Persuasion only goes so far, employees will ultimately go with the person who signs their paychecks... Best case is when everything is clear for all the stakeholders and you feel you are truly overseeing the technical horizon and steering your team in a way that is a force multiplier.
