>Note that this isn't a conspiracy
It is, since Silicon valley and big media companies have always hated the PC's power to copy files. Anyone who has any idea of the history of silicon valley and isn't a retard, knows this has been in the cards for a long time going back to pre internet days when businesses were trying to screw other businesses.

So they openly state they want to undermine local executable files and make every piece of software client server.
- a1369209993 6y agoConspiracies are (or rather, try to be) secret. As you yourself say: > they openly state they want to undermine local executable files and make every piece of software client server. [emphasis added] The only 'effort' software companies have put into keeping this a secret is that they they don't usually publicly announce what they're trying to do.
- nhm33 6y agoBecause the public is so stupid they can operate in broad daylight. You don't seem to get that the vast majority of the population is computer illiterate. You come off as not too bright yourself, why would you go from having quake 3 with level editing, mods, free maps skins, etc, in big budget AAA games, to not getting that, and having the game client server locked to company PC's like diablo 3 and overwatch? As PC gamer from the 90's, we were expecting Diablo 3 to get level editing and modding, aka juts like warcraft and starcraft had editors, the editors stopped however because of world of warcraft, everquest, guild wars, and uo. Those were RPG's that were just renamed and resold to the public with non ownership, aka anyone who paid for those games paid for the privledge of being robbed. It's as if you went and bought a RPG from staples that had an ethernet dongle that was hooked up to a PC in the back of the store in order for the game to function. You don't seem to get "MMO's" and "f2p games" are not genres, they are just the same PC game recoded to get rid of your ability to control the software. It was all part of a scam to defraud the public of getting complete files for software, this was the end game for the corporate world. So that means we've been getting fraudulently coded software for 23+ years now, and now windows 10 has all sorts of client-server bs in it which is basically malware bs to further turn PC's into a locked down platform like mobile. All to undermine local file access control, thy are using things like active directory to deny access to files on your own machine remotely. Shit is dystopian. The fact that most people are oblivious even on hacker news is pretty disturbing since it says "hackers" you'd think hackers would want to own and control their PC's and not be spied on by microsoft or by their own PC game software.

You don't seem to get that the vast majority of the population is computer illiterate. No, I get that just fine - you're not actually arguing that they have a conspiracy; you're arguing that they don't need one. > why would you go from having quake 3 with level editing, mods, free maps skins, etc, in big budget AAA games, to not getting that, and having the game client server locked to company PC's like diablo 3 and overwatch? I wouldn't, partly because I'm not a moron, but mostly because I prefer Warcraft 3; the last good FPS[0] I played was Wolfenstein. 0: unless you completely ignore the "shooting" part and count minetest.
- nhm33 6y ago>No, I get that just fine - you're not actually arguing that they have a conspiracy; you're arguing that they don't need one. You don't get big media companies have been trying to control what the public has been doing with culture long before PC's, aka VHS vs beta max... so yes they have been conspiring for a long time. Conspiring just equals getting together and co-operating in this instance. >I wouldn't, You would, why the hell would anyone who was a 90's nerd defend anything like mmo's (stolen rpg's), steam, etc, unless they were fucking retarded? You do know that all those "mmo's" were just rebadged PC RPG that were heading towards boxed product status, if not for the success of UO and everquest right? The industry did a hard u turn after they discovered most of the general game buying public was computer illiterate. You don't seem to understand we're already in dystopia, aka dedicated servers and network code for games like Transformers fall of cybertron are mathmacking on PC locked to an invisible server corporately controlled. Same goes for Doom 2016. Try running doom multiplayer not connected to the internet over lan, watch the fun begin. You don't seem to get they can now client-server every game now that the world is fully wired with internet, since that was the end game, to wait until internet infrastructure was there to trap files between server and client and bannish the notion of software ownership of applications, games and OS's. Windows 10 is a full frontal attack on your right to own and control your own machine.
