I agree it never made much sense for games like wow, but I preferred games where you could host yourself and tweak a thousand knobs and add mods and whatnot and

I agree it never made much sense for games like wow, but I preferred games where you could host yourself and tweak a thousand knobs and add mods and whatnot and integrate it into a website thanks to rcon. I'm not really gaming anymore for more than a decade but I'd be surprised if there aren't still games around that ship with server software. Just not the triple As anymore.
